Being a homeowner can mean challenges that are scary and costly, and one of those issues could be your home sinking into the ground.
If you’re worried that your home might be sinking, here are a few signs to look for so you can address the issue sooner than later:
- Exterior cracks. Interior cracks on the wall might be a little more obvious but exterior cracks conform due to unevenness or a sinking foundation.
- Uneven floors. Do you ever feel like your home is slanting? Put a pin on the floor I notice if it rolls away in one direction. This line of thinking may be harder to notice early and it’s less obvious than a big crack.
- Cracks in the wall. When you’re home sinks it puts an immense amount of pressure on the walls and door frames. Eventually, cracks will surface on your walls. If you see random cracks in your paint and drywall around the house it could mean that your home is sinking. Keep an eye on the cracks and determine if they are expanding over time.
- Stair Step cracks. If you get a chance to go outside and look at the bricks on the side of your house. Stair Step cracks indicate a vertical settlement in the foundation.
